How much does it cost to open an EDF meter?

You are about to move your offices to a new commercial premises and wish to open an EDF meter to benefit from electricity as soon as you arrive? Procedures, rates and deadlines: follow the guide to understand everything about opening an EDF meter:

Opening an EDF meter : the steps
Opening an electricity meter in a new location is a fairly simple process. It is up to the occupant of the premises, whether owner or tenant, to take care of it.

The first step is to subscribe to a new electricity contract, by phone or online, and then request the opening of the meter to your supplier, which can be EDF or an alternative supplier. Indeed, since the opening of the market to competition in 2007, the site fournisseur-energie.com reminds that you are free to subscribe to an offer with EDF or one of its competitors (Ilek, ENI, Plüm Énergie...). They recommend you to take this step 15 days before the planned date of moving in, in order to be sure to have electricity when you arrive in your premises.

Then, on the day of your move, you must terminate your old contract with the supplier in question and proceed with the meter reading.

Finally, you will have to activate the new meter in your premises, at a date agreed with Enedis, the electricity distribution network manager. If you have a Linky meter, this last step can be done remotely; however, if your premises are not new and are still equipped with a mechanical or electromechanical meter, the commissioning will require the intervention of an Enedis technician.

What are the deadlines and rates for opening an EDF meter ?
It is also the responsibility of the occupant of the dwelling to pay the costs of the electric meter activation. These rates are the same for all electricity suppliers and will be reflected on your first bill.

Please note that delays are longer in August and September: Enedis technicians can take up to 10 days to be available.

If the electricity is cut off in the premises, especially in the case of a new property, there are several possible scenarios:
    - Initial activation in a new property (10 working days after subscription): €51.47
    - Standard activation (5 working days): €13.94
    - Express activation (2 working days): 52,90 €.
    - Urgent commissioning of the Linky meter (same day): 67,87 €.
    - Urgent commissioning of other meters (same day): 148,72 €.

If the electricity is not cut off in the premises, the meter is immediately activated as soon as the contract is signed. The experts at fournisseur-energie.com also warn you against the risk of being cut off if you have not signed any contract: the previous occupant has not cancelled his contract, but can do so at any time!
